Esa Laurema

Esa Laurema is known for his extensive artistic research and practice, combining artistic approaches and technical skills. He has created sculptures, kinetic artwork, and light-responsive installations.

His early participation in the DIMENSIO exhibitions in the 1970s, particularly the 1972 show at the MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART in Helsinki, marked a significant breakthrough in his career and established his reputation in the Finnish contemporary art scene. These DIMENSIO group exhibitions were pivotal in introducing innovative kinetic and light art to a broader audience in Finland and abroad, helping Laurema gain recognition as a leading figure in experimental and technological art.

His participation in exhibitions such as “Taide — Tietokone — Datart (Art — Computer — Data Art)” at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tampere in 1984 and “Sähkoeinen Taide (Electric Art)” in 1992/1995 at the Rauma Art Museum, and in 1995 at the Kuopio Art Museum, further highlights his commitment to integrating new media and technological innovation into his artistic practice.
