Rune Guneriussen works at the intersection of installation art and photography. He developed a conceptual practice that is site-specific and ephemeral. His artistic vocabulary is defined by the deliberate placement of obsolete domestic objects, such as electric lamps, books, chairs, and telephones, in seemingly untouched natural sites, where they serve as markers of human presence within raw natural landscapes.
A distinctive feature of his practice is the swarm-like aggregation of multiple lamps or objects within a single installation. Rather than presenting isolated objects, he deploys clusters of luminaires that appear to form living constellations across the landscape. Dozens of lamps balanced precariously on branches, nestled in snow, or suspended from trees, creating luminous swarms that pulse with organic rhythm. This multiplicity generates emergent behavior. Collectively, they transform into something resembling fireflies, schools of fish, or bioluminescent organisms, touching the boundary between the artificial and the living. This approach echoes collective intelligence, suggesting that meaning emerges not from singular objects but from their relational patterns.
Rune’s practice requires days of meticulous on-site construction, involving the object, its story, and the chosen space. The photograph is not documentary but constitutive; it reflects a moment of reality while the installation is inherently transient.
