Katja Muttilainen is a lighting designer, a creative arts professional and a lighting teacher. Muttilainen has designed and implemented numerous lighting designs for theater and contemporary dance since 1998, and today she is also a light artist as well as light art curator.
Muttilainen primarily uses light, lighting, and augmented reality (AR) applications as her tools. In her art, work, and curating, Muttilainen is interested in encounters; participation and communication, as well as creative, communal knowledge sharing.
During year 2026 Muttilainen makes her “The ugliest place in the city” light artwork in Culture Capital of Europe, Oulu 2026, Finland and also in Tartu, Estonia as a collaboration with Tartu Light Biennale.
