Daniel Popescu

Daniel Popescu is a Romanian artist, curator, and researcher. He has served as a faculty member at the Art and Design University in Cluj-Napoca since completing his bachelor’s degree there in 2012, initially taking on roles in cultural project coordination starting in 2014. He advanced to the position of university lecturer in the Sculpture Department in 2023, while also holding administrative roles, including President of the University Art Association. His teaching focuses on integrating light art, optics, and interdisciplinary practices.

In 2018, he founded the LIGHTS ON ROMANIA festival in Cluj-Napoca, and continues to direct it. The annual light art festival established itself as Romania’s premier event for light art installations that transform public spaces, urban landmarks, and off spaces into contemporary art experiences.

In 2024, his “In-Between” installation series, where optical effects create illusions of depth and movement in geometrical frameworks, was exhibited internationally, including COPENHAGEN LIGHT FESTIVAL, CANARY WHARF WINTER LIGHTS in London, and ESSEN LIGHT FESTIVAL.
