Anthony McCall’s work merges cinema, sculpture, and drawing. He creates temporary sculptures and immersive environments with space, mist, and light as key materials.
He began in 1973 with his “solid-light” installations, a groundbreaking series, the most famous being “Line Describing a Cone.” This work projects a beam of light that gradually traces a three-dimensional form in space over time, emphasizing light as a sculptural medium.
After a hiatus of over twenty years from art production, he resumed these works in the 2000s with digital projection technology.
